THE STORY

From Cerritos, Rhettmatic traces his DJ name to a local LA legend, DJ Scratchmatic, also known as DJ Antron. He remembers Little Tokyo food spots and influential radio shows, and says his experiences have shaped who he is today.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

How did you get your DJ name? What is the story behind it?

I was inadvertently named after an LA local legend, DJ Scratchmatic, also known as DJ Antron.

If you could sit down with your 1992 self, what would you tell him?

Nothing. Everything I experienced up to now made me who I am as a man.

Where was your go-to late-night food spot after a gig? Name, city and order.

Either Koraku or Suehiro in Little Tokyo, Downtown LA.

Your go-to record shop? Name, city and a memory from that place.

Too many to mention.

What's a Beat Junkies memory that still makes you laugh?

Too many to mention... lol.

What's one song you love that people would never expect?

"Live" by Lenny Kravitz.

What's one thing you miss about the '90s that has nothing to do with music?

Having radio shows like Friday Nite Flavas, Wake Up Show and Stretch & Bobbito.

What's something about today's music scene that you actually love?

The community.
